Lebanon Faces Alarming Poverty Surge, World Bank Reports

Lebanon is grappling with a severe economic crisis that has seen poverty rates more than triple over the past decade, according to the World Bank. The crisis, which began in late 2019, has plunged a third of the Lebanese population into poverty, with rural areas experiencing poverty rates as high as 62%. The situation is even more dire for the Syrian refugee population in Lebanon, where nine out of every ten are living below the poverty line. This alarming increase in poverty underscores the depth of Lebanon's financial meltdown and the urgent need for comprehensive economic reforms.
