Originally founded in 1972 as the National Front (Front National), the party underwent significant rebranding in 2018, adopting its current name in an effort to soften its image and broaden its appeal. In 2012, the PCF claimed 138,000 members including 70,000 who have paid their membership fees.

On 13 November 2010, The Greens merged with Europe Ecology to become Europe Ecology – The Greens.

The New Anticapitalist Party is a far-left French political party founded in February 2009. The party launched with the intention of unifying the fractured movements of the French radical Left, and attract new activists drawing on the combined strength of far-left parties in presidential elections in 2002, where they achieved 10.44% of the vote.

Ensemble aims towards strengthening the Left Front by building a broad movement against austerity.
